Who We Are
"We are a community. We are important. We are valued. We are Brookwood in Georgetown”.- BiG Citizens
Brookwood in Georgetown is a God-centered entrepreneurial vocational community where adults with intellectual challenges are celebrated and empowered by engaging their talents in meaningful work.
What We Do
“We paint. We plant. We cook. We create. We help each other. We laugh. We earn a paycheck.”
Brookwood in Georgetown has created a safe, welcoming community where our Citizens are able to come together and create marketable items. We have experienced special education professionals providing job training and support so that the Citizens can experience the dignity of setting and achieving work goals.
Currently, our Citizens craft handmade pottery pieces, unique cards, and help assemble jewelry in the workrooms. In the kitchen, they make and package homemade granola and The BiG Cookie. Outside in the garden, Citizens are learning about planting and growing sunflowers, vegetables and herbs. These enterprises provide items that are sold in The BiG Shop and in venues, with the proceeds helping to sustain the program.
Why Do We Do It
“We want to contribute. We have talents, and interests. We like to be active. We want to be with friends.”
We believe that life is a gift from God, and that He treasures each and every person just as they are. We believe that everyone is entitled to a life of meaning. Our school system provides a place for those with intellectual and physical challenges to learn and grow, but unfortunately those supports do not continue into adulthood. Brookwood in Georgetown is an expansion of the successful Brookwood Community in Brookshire, Texas, which has been providing educational, social, vocational and spiritual enrichment for adults with special needs for almost 30 years.
How Do We Do It
“By the grace of God, our community was created and continues to grow and serve.”
Brookwood in Georgetown is a non-profit organization, funded completely by tuition, donations from individuals and organizations, and proceeds from the sales of goods created by the Citizens. Our success is directly related to the generosity of the numerous churches, volunteers, companies and families who believe in the value of the lives that we are changing. We do not accept government funding or restrictions.
